Is There Lead Content In Cheap Chinese Knives?

October 18, 2010

I bought a pair of throwing knives for rather cheap the other day. They are painted black, does this mean that since they are from China they have lead in them?
Oh btw it says stainless steal 440,
but could the Chinese be lying?
I bought it here in Canada at a liquidation place.

Being painted black wouldn't signify anything regarding metallurgy.

I wouldn't be surprised to find lead in such a tool/toy.

The only way to KNOW is test them... kits available.

The paint may or may not have lead in it. The metal itself also may contain lead. Don’t use them for food, and don’t put them in your mouth. Wash your hands well before and after using them. That should keep you safe.

Before use? That’s to keep the knives safe from you! The oils on your skin may wear the paint off, if the knives are the cheap kind. You may also want to spray them with a good sealant.
